• Natural teeth are the preferred method for biting, chewing and maintaining mouth and jawbone structure which is why at Park Blvd Dentistry, our first priority is to help restore, save and repair your natural teeth.  However, if a tooth is broken, cracked or extensively decayed, it may be necessary to have it removed.  Additionally, a tooth that is associated with advanced stages of periodontal disease or teeth that are poorly positioned or non-functional may sometimes require removal.  Unfortunately, on occasion, the recommendation of a tooth extraction is unavoidable.

Wisdom teeth extractions are actually fairly common procedures.  Wisdom teeth often cause problems as they are trying to protrude through the gums.  When you are told that a wisdom tooth is impacted, it means the tooth is coming in at an angle and not straight through the gum line, causing pain, potentially coming in unevenly or perhaps only emerging partially.  When a wisdom tooth only emerges partially, a flap of tissue [called an operculum] may form over the tooth which can make that tooth hard to clean due to the fact that food debris becomes difficult to remove. This situation can make it easy for an infection (pericoronitis) to develop.  .

Whatever the reason, you can rest assured that Dr. Szeszycki will carefully explore all possibilities and inform you of any other options before making the decision to remove a tooth.  We understand that the process of having a tooth extracted may be the most daunting of all dental procedures and therefore, we make every attempt to minimize your anxiety throughout the procedure.

Rest assured Dr. Szeszycki and her team will make sure you are comfortable before, during and after your extraction procedure.
